we have a new exhibition with paintings by christina ashworth which runs until 27th june.

here's what the artist has to say about her work and inspiration...

“this wounded earth we walk upon she will be here when we are gone’ karine polwart

my desire in painting is to capture the affect the natural world has on me. its capacity to draw me in to itself. it reminds me that, however lost, isolated and lonely we might feel in the rush and dissonance of modern life, we are always on a deep level connected. getting lost in nature reminds me that where ever we are we are truly at home in the web of life. gathered in by the reaching arms of a tree, or through the sleek curve of a cat’s back or up into the beauty of a winter sky. they are inspired by walks through the green spaces of liverpool. they are in part a dream of the future for a planet which has healed itself. a place where familiar landscapes are devoid of people, buildings walls, railings and human artefacts so that all that is left is the sky, the trees and the beauty of a world in harmony with, and at peace with, itself.

‘whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things’. mary oliver
